Can you provide any information on a monthly Old Time jam session at Guido’s? I hear rumors but need real times and days. Thank you for any reply.
Hi Scott,
I just talked with its hostess, Rose Mercer, who tells me it occurs every Thursday from 8-10 and is kid-friendly, which means I might get to make it down someday
This from Rose Mercer about the new old-time jam in town:
Dear Friends,
A reminder about the old time jam at Guido’s Pizza, every Thursday from 8-10 p.m. This is not an exclusive or cliquish jam. In fact it is completely the opposite. Each of us learned to play old-time dance tunes in jams from people who were kind enough to share their tunes with us. Now we want to share them with you. You do not need an invitation. You do not need to be an experienced player. The music is easy and is meant to be fun and accessible to anyone who wants to play it. That is the essence of old time music. The only thing we ask is that you bring a desire to try something new and most importantly a respect for this beautiful tradition. It rocks. Please join us and bring a friend.

Just moved : the Paddleboat Cafe bluegrass jam is now meeting at Guido’s Pizza on Tuesday nights starting at 7 until people are ready to go home. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Robbie at 297-7908 (days) or 338-6419 (evenings.)
Hey,
I’ve been coming to the Thursday night old time jam at Guido’s for a month now and love it! Everyone is super friendly and I’m picking up a lot!
Has anyone been to the bluegrass jam on Wednesday nights at the Tap Root? Is that still happening?
Also, are there any good jam groups geared towards the twenty-something crowd? I love playing with everyone but would like to jam with some folks more my age too.
There is a new jam session on Thursday nights at The Players House of Rock on Spenard Road. Everyone is welcome to sign up and play any kind of music. Jam starts at 9:00PM and runs until 1:00AM.
Traveling to Anchorage on business. Arrive Thursday night
close to 10pm, leave Saturday early. Looking for bluegrass/old time jam. So far I have one at the Silvertip Cafe in Girdwood on Friday night, and the Players House of Rock on Thursday night. Is there anything I’m missing????Thanks for any help you can give. Geoff
Hi Geoff,
You’d enjoy the scenic drive to Girdwood but you aren’t going to find any bluegrass/old-time at either. If there’s a next time, those are at McGinley’s Pub and Guido’s Pizza. Enjoy your visit!
David M. you told me about an Old Time music jam happening Wednesday evenings in Eagle River. Can you repeat the place and the time in your blog please? Thanks.
The Irish session at Middle Way Cafe is no more. R.I.P.
